Allow Me to Introduce Myself!
EDUCATION: After graduating from nearby Avon High School, I attended college at the University of Connecticut, where I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Family Studies and Psychology.
Immediately after graduating from UConn, I went to Saint Joseph College in West Hartford to earn my K-6 Teaching Certificate and my Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on the Multiple Intelligence Theory.
EXPERIENCE: While I was working on my Master's Degree, I worked in various capacities at Pine Grove Elementary School in Avon. There, I gained experience working with Special Education students as a paraprofessional, a building substitute in all Kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms, and a long term substitute in grades 1 and 4.
In 2007, I was fortunate enough to be hired as a third grade teacher at Cherry Brook School. I then moved to second grade and am currently teaching my third year of second grade at Cherry Brook.
RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM: After being hired in Canton, I was thrilled to be able to participate in two week-long summer trainings in the Responsive Classroom Approach to teaching. Please visit my Responsive Classroom page for more information about this approach!
GOAL: My emphasis in teaching is on providing a safe and nurturing community of learners, to have a child-centered classroom in which the children are the main focus, and to tailor my classroom to the individual needs of my learners.
THE FUN STUFF!
I recently got married in Cancun, Mexico to my wonderful husband, Erik. We currently live in Southington with our Olde English Bulldog, Mack, and our Weimerimer, Durham. We love to take the dogs for long walks, cook new and exciting meals, and enjoy time with family and friends!
Below you'll find a picture of us on the beach at our wedding. It was an amazing day!
