       advantages/disadvantages and uses of each method of assessment created by students in
        their project.

9/26  Class does not meet due to pep rally for Spirit Week.

9/27  Floor Plans due. Evaluate as a group then display for class  assessment-use criteria given in homework assignment. Which would be your choice and why for a safe,learning/teaching environment?

9/28  In class,use articles from preschool and relate how "Observation" is used to learn about children. Take True/False pre test to see what you know about Observation techniques.After class discussion of the four major types of assessment,reevaluate your initial response.We ill begin a project on Friday based upon how to create assessments for young childrern.

9/30  Computer lab-begin project(based upon Ch 3 using guidelines and rubric)
        Develop four different forms to use in assessing young children based upon Observations.
        DUE-Wed 10/5. Projects are reduced one letter grade for each day late. If projects
       lack a visual related to the project on each page,-5 will be deducted form the 25
       points for that specific page.

Week of Sept 19-23

9/19  Homework: Review for tomorrow's test:check out questions at end of Ch 1,words in bold
         print, and notes from class to date.Test is book generated.

9/20  TEST-Ch 1.Homework-Read pp 111-120. How to determine space utilization in a
          preschool class.

9/21  Use the information you read on colors and classorom/children and draw a wall in a classroom for either a preschooler or a child over the age of 6. Be able to explain your color choices for the correct age of the child.

9/22  State of CT Licensure Laws for Day care facilities:family,group,etc.

9/23   Complete notes...begin for Homework-Floor Plans for a preschool setting. Due Tues.
                                     9/27. Floor plans should use the dimensions of the paper and
                                     include:
                                     two fire exits,five identified learning centers, incorporate safety and
                                    teacher visibility.

           of December;

11/23   Chapter 18:worksheet on "Guiding Children's Art Acrtivities."

11/24   Two lessons due based upon one theme: Example: Winter;Science and a Language
            Arts or Crafts or Movement,etc.

11/15 Complete individual and children's name tags for class.
         Evaluate lesson that could be used for the end of Dec..winter theme.

         Refer to text pp274 with Flow Chart.

11/11 Collect homework;hand out 4 page packet on how to go about planning lessons for teaching
         young children.Go over lesson on creating a Flow Chart with teaching objectives for a
          lesson on dogs. Remember to keep the lesson at the level of a young child not an adult!
        
11/12 Game that challenges students on development common to young children.

Week of Nov 1-5

11/1 Students who are teaching begin to plan for Wed. activity;discussion of how to address the
       issue of emotions:paper plate to signify happy,sad,surprised,angry,etc.

11/3 Teen and Toddler Playtime-1/2 class to observe.

11/4 Follow up to yesterday's activity with children:pluses and areas needing improvement for
      discussion. Finish up worksheet on Ch 12 and discuss in relatiion to preschool and "emotions lesson."

        child development,fine and gross motor activities,how to encourage language development,

         Explore the various themes and lessons available to use with preschoolers from your
         research-don't reinvent the wheel!

10/12  Review Chapter 3 on types of observable data;visit CPAT classroom and write down what
          you observe that is occuring with children in the classroom. Be prepared to share your
          observations.
          Assign project to create three different ways to gather data or record observations:
          Participation Check List,Ratings Scale, and a Check List.
           DUE: Friday 10/15 at the end of class.

9/28  Homework:Complete a floor plan for a preschool classroom with the five criteria
        included:learning centers(5),safety, fire exits,teacher visibilty, and traffic flow drawn
         on the floor plan. Be prepared to have your floor plan critiqued in class.

9/29  Critique  ompleted floor plan in class.

9/30  Finish critiquing floor plans;visit CPAT room and identify the exits,learning centers,teacher
        visibility, and safe areas for children.
        Notes on St of Ct Dept. of Health requirements for licensure of day care centers,and family
         day care centers.

Week of Sept 20-24

9/20  QUIZ-Childhood in the past vs. today;discuss the reasons why child care is necessary in
         today's society

9/21 Computer Lab-Research Teaching as a career compared to another career of the student's
                                choice.

9/22 "Cool Schools" appearance for Seniors in class with children in the CPAT area; In writing,
        compare both careers researched and give three reasons with explaination as to which
        career you would like to pursue.

9/23  Class discussion of other options of working with children other than teaching.
        Homework:pp19-26-be prepared to explain the assigned topic related to either
         teaching responsibilities or characteristics of successful teachers.

9/24  Homework:Study for test on Chapter 1 for Monday 9/27.

Week of Sept 13-17

9/13 Continue with "Little Women"

9/14 "Little Women"..note taking to continue to share in class tomorrow for discussion on
        childhood in the past as compared to today.

9/15  Class discussion on how children are viewed in today's society as compared to the past.

9/16 .In class, read Chapter 1:pg.  13-28; write out  answers to "Read and Reflect" at the end of
         the Chapter.
