Welcome to my web page!
SRBI stands for Scientific Research Based Interventions - this is Connecticut's response to a federal law requiring that schools adopt a framework called Response to Intervention (RTI). Federal and state law require public schools to monitor student performance regularly and intervene early when a student is found to be struggling, instead of waiting for the student to fail.
My position at Canton Public Schools is a complex one that encompasses many areas of teaching and intervention, as well as data collection and management. Per the State of Connecticut's Framework for RTI entitled "Using Scientific Research-Based Interventions: Improving Education for All Students," SRBI involves:
- Core general education curriculums that are scientifically research based and are comprehensive in addressing a range of essential competencies
- Comprehensive system of social-emotional learning and behavioral supports
- Maintaining respectful and ethical behaviors from staff to ensure a positive school climate
- Using research-based instructional strategies
- Differentiating instruction for all learners, including those performing above and below grade level expectations and English Language Learners
- Universal common assessments of all students
- Early intervention for students experiencing academic, social-emotional and/or behavioral difficulties
- Data driven decision making
- A continuum of support that include increasing intensity and/or individualization across multiple tiers
- Teachers within a grade use the same common formative assessments , maintain the same behavioral expections and address the same curricular or social/emotional competencies.
This page is dedicated to distributing general information that is specific to the Canton Public Schools. Please see the SRBI Resources and Links page for additional information on many of the areas that fall under the umbrella of SRBI. More specific information on the many areas of SRBI in Canton can be found under the sidebars.
Please visit the Strategies page to find strategies that can be used at home and in the classroom to help students succeed.
I write about strategies in my blog, also, so be sure to check that out, too! :)
