After the presentation of vignettes, students and their families mingled with the veterans and their guests enjoying a coffee and pastry bar provided by the students. Occasionally, the students are able to interview and write for their own grandparents, as was the case with Meg and Laura pictured above.

Often the students form close bonds with their veterans and look forward to future chance meetings in the grocery or hardware stores, at the Memorial Day parade, or at other community-wide events.
