1/7/2019 - Art Students Recognized

Connecticut Art Teachers have the opportunity to select outstanding student works of art to compete in The Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards. CHS students who had artwork selected were Lauren Almeida, Claudia Boehm, Zoe Bates, Jackson Bidmead, Mackenzie Gaudet, Gabrielle Marcuccio,  Jenna Mattson, Sophie Menoutis, Connor Swogger, Kylie Wishneski. To be chosen for submission is an honor considering each school is only able to submit a limited number of pieces that represent the most compelling work created throughout the year.

After submission, student artwork is juried by professional artists and university art faculty to be selected on merit for inclusion in a state-wide art exhibition held at the Hartford Art School. Pieces are judged on technical skill, originality and innovation, and emergence of a personal vision or voice. Beyond the honor of being selected for this high quality exhibit, students may be awarded Gold or Silver keys and Honorable Mention Awards in each of 17 media categories.

We are incredibly proud to announce that  Claudia Boehm, Gabrielle Marcuccio, Rachel Tarinelli, and Kylie Wishneski all received one of these awards. When artwork is dropped off for the exhibit-winners are told what award they were recognized for, so stay tuned. Award winning artwork will be on display at the Hartford Art School Silpe Gallery from January 13th - February 1, 2019 (the exhibit is open M-F from 10am-4pm). Students will also be recognized at the Connecticut Regional Celebration at Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, from 2-3:30, and the exhibit will be open from 12-5pm that day as well. .
