Connecticut Art Teachers have the pleasure of selecting up to five works of art to compete in The Connecticut Regional Scholastic Awards. CHS students who had artwork selected were Gina Atkinson, Michaela Gay, and Ayesha Mayo for their ceramics pieces and Cassie Lucca and Rachel Tarinelli, for their drawings and paintings. To be chosen is an honor because Art Teachers are only able to submit up to five pieces that represent the most compelling work created throughout the year.
After submission, student artwork is juried by professional artists and university art faculty to be selected on merit for inclusion in a state-wide art exhibition held at the Hartford Art School. Pieces are judged on technical skill, originality and innovation, and emergence of a personal vision or voice. Beyond the honor of being selected for this high quality exhibit, students may be awarded Gold or Silver keys and Honorable Mention Awards in each of 17 media categories.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Gina Atkinson received a GOLD KEY for her Alice in Wonderland themed tea cups, and Rachel Tarinelli earned a SILVER KEY for her Pen & Ink Collinsville Bridge drawing . These awards are well deserved! These students will have their artwork on display at the Hartford Art School Silpe Gallery from January 14th (opening celebration at noon) until February 3rd. They will also be recognized at the Connecticut Regional Celebration at Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, from 2-3:30 pm.
But wait there’s more!!! Since Gina earned a Gold Key, her work will continue on to compete at the National level. Keep your fingers crossed!
