Good afternoon CHS families!
Notes from the Assistant Principal:
Students appear to have again settled into their routines after the short winter recess as we roll further to the midpoint of the third quarter. We wanted take this time to let you know about some upcoming events you will want to mark on your calendar.
It’s once again time to schedule your parent/teacher conferences via pickatime.com. Pickatime.com opens up tomorrow, February 25th. You should have received an email earlier this week with relevant information. Conferences will be held on March 14th, 15th (evening conferences), and 16th.
We hope you can make it to the CHS Choral Concert on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 pm. This year’s theme is “Songs of the Continents”, and will be featuring a tour of music from around the world. For more information check out the cantonmusic.org website.
The Spring Sports Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. Note that this is a time change from previously published times. Every student-athlete that would like to play a spring sport MUST attend this meeting with their parent/guardian. All paperwork will be handed in to the spring coaches that night. Paperwork needed to play a spring sport is:
- Athletic Form Packet
- Updated physical on file with the nurse
- Pay to participate dues ($100) or a financial waiver
We continue to wrap up a fabulous winter season in which all of our athletes performed outstandingly. Although the girl’s basketball team lost in the NCCC semi-finals to East Windsor on Tuesday night they have had a great season. Their state tournament begins on Monday, February 27th where they will be playing Derby High School at 7 pm at home. The boy’s basketball team plays in the NCCC quarter-finals this tonight at 7 pm at home. We hope you can come support our girls and boys!
On a wrestling note, Brian Connolly came in 4th place at the State Championships and is competing today in the wrestling State Open on Friday at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. We wish him luck!
Canton Dollars for Scholars (CDFS) has announced their 2017 scholarship season. Online applications will be accepted beginning Wednesday, March 1st and ends on Friday, March 31st. High school seniors residing in Canton may apply regardless of whether they attend Canton High School or a private, parochial or homeschool program. Scholarships are offered for a broad range of post-secondary programs including vocational and technical schools as well as two-year and four-year college degrees.
Canton Dollars for Scholars seeks the well-rounded student who is achieving his or her personal best grades while serving the school, community and the greater good. CDFS focuses on school involvement, work and community commitments. Teacher recommendations and financial information are not considered or required, however, the student may provide this information if they want to pursue certain national scholarships through our parent organization, Scholarship America.
Students and parents can find information on both local Canton scholarships and national awards by visiting the CDFS website at www.canton.dollarsforscholars.org. Anyone interested in making a donation to support our scholarship programs should visit the website as well.
On a logistical note, we would like to remind students that they should be parking in the lower parking lot and/or a NUMBERED space in the upper lot only. If student’s do not comply with the parking rules, they are at risk of losing their parking privileges or disciplinary action
Donate a toothbrush is a community service organization created to help children and adults in third world countries with their dental hygiene. With your help (and plenty of toothbrushes… no electric please), we can help make their smiles bright! LEO club is running a tootbrush drive to collect new toothbrushes. Please consider making a donation of a toothbrush or a monetary donation so we can purchase toothbrushes for this great cause. Donations can be brought to room 109/110 through the end of February.
It’s not too late! Mu Alpha Theta, the Math Honor Society, is selling chances to win a TI-84 plus graphing calculator. If your student can guess the number of Valentine's Day candies that are in the container, the calculator can be theirs! Guesses are 1 for a dollar or 7 for five dollars, and can be purchased during lunches or by stopping by the math office. The jar will also be circulated to all math classrooms. The drawing is February 28th. Good luck!
