2/13/2017 - Students represent CHS in National Ocean Science Quahog Bowl
Congratulations to the SEARCH Club & CHS students that represented Canton High at the 20th annual regional National Ocean Science Quahog Bowl at UCONN Avery Point in Groton, CT, on Saturday, February 4th. This year’s team was comprised of Ian Witzgall, Marissa Schroeter, Jessie Webb, Samantha Dionne, Lynzee Mills, and Lila Hunt. The team made it to Round 6 of 9 and competed against teams from CT and RI. This was the third time that CHS has competed at this event and scored a competitive finish against 16 other teams for the afternoon seedings and elimination rounds. The National Ocean Science Bowl is a timed competition for teams of high schools students involving critical thought questions and rapid memory recall "buzzer" questions. Question topics cover biology, physics, geology, chemistry of the oceans, ocean history, policy, technology and current events. In addition to the bowl, students are greeted by numerous marine science policy advocates, scientists, professors, and leaders from the University of Rhode Island and UCONN that highlight their work and programs.
