Music Department Philosophy

Music is a vital part of each person's life.

The Canton School System provides individual and group aesthetic experiences in singing, creative movement, listening, and playing an instrument. Through the recognition of each child's inherent music differences, the ability to understand an appreciate music will be nurtured by listening, hearing, singing and moving to music, creating, recognizing, reading, and writing music.

The music program should help every child develop self-image, social responsibility, problem solving, as well as foster communication and promote self-motivation toward productive goals. Each child should build a lifelong relationship with music, thus creating an appreciation for the arts and humanity.
