This course will introduce students to the fabrication process involved in making sterling silver jewelry by hand (vs the casting method). Emphasis in the course is placed on: safety, care and use of specialty tools, working use of the Elements and Principles of Design, jewelry specific vocabulary and the translation of demonstrated procedures and techniques.Students are required to purchase a sketch book 8 1/2 x 11 or smaller to be used for: designing pieces, as a working journal, critiques, homework and in class assignments. Students are also responsible for purchasing all sterling silver metal and stones to be used during the semester (approximate cost for the semester is $40.00).Jewelry 2 and 3 build upon the skills aquired in Jewelry 1 and 2. Advanced techniques and more challenging assignments are given. Due to the nature and level of these courses, students may incur more cost than in previous courses, cost is based on the students choice of materials. |
