The Cherry Brook Primary School PTO, or the parent teacher organization, is a volunteer group of parents and teachers. The purpose of this volunteer group is to enhance the communication between teachers, administrators and parents with the hope of bettering the educational experience of all children who attend Cherry Brook Primary School.
The CBPS PTO meets once a month—which has traditionally been the second Tuesday night of each month, although this is subject to change. They meet in the media center, or library, at Cherry Brook Primary School. The meetings are run by the PTO board, which consists of 2 co-presidents (or a president and vice president), a treasurer, a secretary, 2 or 3 teacher representatives, the school principal and parents. The meetings have an open-door policy and everyone is welcome and encouraged to come.
The CBPS PTO organizes approximately 4-5 major fundraisers a year. These fundraisers have been a Fall and Spring Scholastic Book Fair, a Fall or Winter Festival, a Children’s Fair in the Spring and a fundraiser consisting of selling merchandise such as Jeannine products. The funds that are raised from these events are used for various things during the school year in which they are raised. Some examples of purchases have been: playground equipment, educational materials used to supplement the third grade, bookshelves for the second grade classrooms, talking globes, bus costs for all field trips, programs and speakers such as Mother Goose, The Butterfly Man, and the Tirebiter Band concert, new books for classrooms, Earth Day events, and much, much more!
The CBPS PTO can only be as good as its volunteers and every year every effort is made to encourage participation in this active and important group. The services and materials that are funded by the CBPS PTO benefit every single student at Cherry Brook Primary School.
