Second grade is a transitional year from first grade.  Students learn to read in first grade and read to learn in second grade.  Throughout the year, students develop mathematical strategies, inquire about scientific experiments, learn about other cultures in social studies, and develop stories that include more description and the characters' conversations, actions, thoughts and feelings.
