We begin the year with a unit titled Number Theory. This unit builds on students' understanding of factors and products. The new material in this unit builds on students' prior informal work with multiplication and division of whole numbers. Number theory makes the point that mathematics is more than computation. Since number theory features a technical vocabulary where precise meanings of words really matter.
