WELCOME 7TH GRADERS TO  CMS!!! Be prepared for new experiences in all Experiential classes. Perhaps a new interest,new ideas,
or even a direction in life will result from your Experiential classes.

WEEK OF OCT 6-10

THIS IS THE LAST FULL WEEK OF CLASSES THAT STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE THEIR SEWING PROJECTS.     
 I WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER SCHOOL ON TUES., THE 7TH FOR EXTRA HELP!

Week of Sept 29-10/3

9/29  Shaker Trip-No class if going on Field Trip.

9/30  No class-Rosh Hashanah.

10/1  Continue with project.
        EXTRA HELP AFTER SCHOOL TONIGHT FOR 1 HR. IN ROOM 207.

10/2  Continue with project.

10/3  Continue with project.

Week of Sept 22-26

9/22     Fabric and thread due for project.

9/23     Complete pin cushions, add pins,view demo on how to prepare fabric for sewing.

9/24     Follow steps in demo and written directions.

9/25     Same as 9/24

9/26     Same as 9/24

Week of Sept 15-19

9/15       Complete sewing tests on paper. To be graded.

9/16       Practice :winding a bobbin;threading a sewing machine.

9/17        Insert bobbin into machine:practice stitching on fabric.

9/19        Directions-How to make a Pin Cushion.

9/19       Continue on  cutting out pattern for pin cushion,pinning,stitching,reverse stitching at beginning and end,clip
              corners,etc.


Week of Sept 8-12

            Students are working on completing their button projects, completing self-evaluation of hand sewn
             project.learning the parts of the sewing machine and sewing machine safety.
          
            On 9/12, a paper was sent home with the fabric requirements for student sewing projects.
           Materials are due on Mon 9/22.
           If this paper did not arrive home, please call,e-mail, or ask your child for a second copy.

Week of Sept 2-5

9/2        Demonstrate  use of a pattern: how to cut  out and pin a pattern. Begin button activity with a pattern.
            Discussion of independent living skills: repair of clothing.
            Choose pattern,cut out pattern,pin to fabric,cut.

9/3         Threading a needle and knotting at end;cutting additional felt cut outs to embelish project.

9/4         Demonstration: sewing on a two-hole button;how to finish off neatly with an invisible knot. Pin on
            decorative pieces prior to beginning button.

9/5        Sewing on of four-hole button;,shank.
            Create- a -shank button demo.    Four buttons should be sewn on securel

Week of August 27-29


8/27            What is FACS? and what will we do in class and what classes are available in high school in FACS?
                      Tour and explanation of the Culinary Program.
                      Class outline and expectations handed out to students-Parent signature required for first grade!
                      We will be making colorful pillowcases.More info to be sent home in the following week
                  

8/28              FACS Shuffle: Get-Acquainted Activity. Review Get Acquainted Activity and its relationship to FACS.
                      FCCLA Club (Family,Career, and Community Leaders of America) will meet after school once a month (or
                      more for those interested in a fun after school activity in cooking,sewing,crafts,etc. Watch FCCLA CMS
                     web page for more info in the next week !Ms. Jorgensen is the Advisor.

8/29              Begin hand sewing!!
                    Introduction to basic sewing equipment and its purpose in clothing construction; how to use safely.

9/11              Evalute your work! Complete and turn in for a grade; parts of the sewing machine activity.

                    Practice stitching on paper.

9/13           Test:sew on a paper-straight lines,pivot lines.

4/9     Stitch on paper.3 papers to be grade as a test. PRACTICE FIRST!

4/10     How to wind a bobbin;practice threading a machine,stitch on fabric.

4/11    Directions for making a pin cushuion presented in demonstration and written.

4/12     Work on pin cushion. CVomplete with fiberfil,use invisible stitch to habnd-sew closed, add pins in preparation for pinning
           pattern onto own fabric.
