WHY ART? Visual Arts Goal @ CIS ART exercises the imagination.
ART encourages problem-solving and nurtures creative thinking and decision making.
ART students feel self-worth through creation, and the chance to express their feelings and beliefs.
ART is fun! In line with the National and State Visual
Arts Standards, it is our goal at CIS to further students' artistic literacy. Students will explore various art media and techniques, respond and critique their work and the work of others, and express their thoughts, ideas, and ideals artistically. They will become skilled problem solvers and gain an aesthetic appreciation for the visual arts, as well as for the world around them.

May 2008
Grade 4 Grade 5 Grade 6 Fourth graders are learning about the amazing work and lives of Impressionists Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, and Edgar Degas! Claude Monet was a true magician of light and color. Students are learning about his fascinating life with his family and friends, his water garden paintings and his role in the Impressionism movement. Students had the opportunity to view original works by Monet, Degas, Cassatt last week at the Hill-Stead Museum. Time was also spent on the museum grounds drawing in the sunken garden. These sketches are now being developed into finished pieces with tempera and pastels.
