Enrichment Teacher: Miss Zimmerman

A.C.T. Bulletin Board

*   This bulletin board is set up outside of the A.C.T. classroom on the 3rd floor.  Students are able to work on these challenging problems during their free time.  Each problem is worth 4 points and students need to earn 12 points in one month to earn a prize.

*   Each month the logic problems are changed and the students have a new chance at earning points.  I keep track of how many points they have earned and when they have gotten the 12 points.

*   I will be talking with all classes about the opportunity to win a prize every month.  The response was greatly enthusiastic last year and I am hoping that students will be just as excited this year.

*   Check out the CIS newsletter for students who receive prizes each month!

Clubs

*   Clubs will be offered throughout the school year both during and after school.

*   As clubs are starting, students will be notified and able to sign up.  If the club is held after school then a parent/guardian’s permission will be needed due to transportation needs.

*   If you would like to volunteer your time and expertise, please contact Adina Zimmerman at 693-7717 or
AZimmerman@cantonschools.org.

*  Click here to see what clubs are going on now!!!

Independent Studies

*   Independent studies are an option given to all students (requirement for identified students).

*   Students who choose to work on an independent study will be given the extra responsibility of working on their project along with their regular academics and regularly assigned homework.

*   The students will be leaving a regular academic component once a week for a half hour to work in the Challenge room on their topic.  (Fifth and sixth grade identified students meet for an hour twice a week.)

*   Independent studies are for all grades 4, 5, and 6.  Some students have already expressed an interest in working on a topic as an independent study.  I ask for teacher and parent feedback on whether they think that the extra work is suitable for that child.

Math Enrichment

Math enrichment is given in each grade level at C.I.S.  Students are chosen by their math teacher based on their math scores on their pre-assessment tests for each unit and overall math achievement.  Students meet in the A.C.T. room once a week for a ? hour period during their math class.
